Careers and caring

You can still get a job if you are looking after someone. You should tell your employer about your situation so that they can help you as much as they can. Ask them if they have a Carers Policy setting out how they help employees who are carers. Talk to them about working flexibly so you can carry on caring while working, by “job-sharing” with someone else, working “flexi-time” or using annual leave to cover times when you need to be with someone.

There is now a law that says that everyone can take unpaid time off to look after someone who depends on them if there is an emergency www.dti.gov.uk/er/time_off_deps.htm
