Young Carers Projects
There is no project near me – who can help?
If you can’t find a local Young Carers Project, there are still people who can help you. Talking to people about personal stuff can feel risky. Sometimes you are not sure what they will do. Sometimes taking that risk is the only way to make a difficult situation better. You can make it feel safer to talk to someone by trying some of these:
- Write a list of the friends and family you trust and why.
- Talk to them about something that’s not so important first. Do they listen well? Do they gossip about it with other people? Do they help you fix a problem or do they try to fix it for you?
- Ask adult workers what rules they have to follow when young people talk to them about their personal lives.
- Be clear about what you want from the person you talk to.
- Write a list of the good things and bad things about talking to someone – what might happen if you don’t talk to anyone and what might happen if you do?
Sometimes talking to a friend that you trust makes things feel better. Sometimes you need the right information and the only place to get it is an adult worker.
