Can I catch it?
Cancer
No! It is not possible to catch cancer from anyone.
Sometimes people talk about cancer “running in a family”. This just means that people who have parents or lots of family members with cancer might be a little more likely to get cancer at some time in their lives. This is because we are made of little building blocks called “genes” and we have many of the same genes as our parents. But we are not exactly the same as our parents, so how healthy your life style is can make a lot more difference than how many people in your family have had cancer. For example, you can make yourself much less likely to get cancer by not smoking, finding out about healthy eating and asking your doctor if there are regular tests that you can have to catch problems early on when they are easy to treat.
