We often get asked to explain what it’s like to be a young carer. You could help by telling us your story so that we can use it to make more people understand how caring affects young people. We might use your stories in school materials, information packs, newspapers and magazines.
Don’t worry, we won’t use real names and we always ask for permission before using anything. Email youngcarers@carers.org in confidence.
Read Ellie's story:
"my name is ellie i am 9 years old i help my mom and brother who is 11 years old look after my dad. 4 years ago we found out he had ms. things have changed alot since then my dad carnt work any more and my mom is his full time carer. My dad gets moody sometimes and upset, because he cant do things he used to. me and my brother try and cheer him up when he's sad bacause it makes us sad, we help him do day to day things, we even go fishing (boring) with him to make sure hes safe, it makes me worry to much if im not with him. i do feel unhappy and sad at times because my dad has changed alot since he found out hes got MS. but i love him so much and im glad hes still here, some children havent got a dad. mine is one in a million and i wouldnt swap him for the world."
