    my sis

    hey.

as ya know my sis has downs syndrome but quite severe-she is on the border line for autism- she is quite an independant person but she is going through quite a violent stage alongisde early teenage attiitude! its really affectin me cuz she prefers me to help her rather than my mum so i have to give up my fre time to play with her or at a nightime help her with the getting ready for bed routine. i've just started my gcse's and teachers at school no things are tough for me ..other problems as well... but  i wondered if any of you are in a similiar situation.

     sz 4 goin on!

it varies...like atm i have r.e coursework around 10 weeks overdue and ive still not done it! it depends on the day i've had...like if i'm having a bad day i dnt listen in the lesson so dnt get the hmwk or had 2 look after my sister alot then i get behind. but no1 at schools knows about how much i look after her..they only knw bout my other probs..

how about u..what to you struggle with?

    Re: my sis

hi, i care for my younger brothers who hav severe autism and depend on me alot. when im not doing school work i am helping them with anything they need. i can understand why your asking for help!

ive only just joined this site but i have been a young carer for some time now.

its not easy to give up all your time, especailly(excuse my spellin) when others dont understand.

and dont worry about 'goin on' cause young carers are entitled to moan as much as anyone else. you could call it, getting stuff off your chest instead of moaning!

    Re: my sis

    ayup.

i have to put her 2 bed most nights, wash her, clean her teeth, help her with toileting, pik her up from her bus once a week nd luk after her til my mum gets in. bu most of the time its just a case of keeping her company, whihc i know sounds easy but sh is a really impatient person nd once im with her dusnt like me going, nd my mum is drunk most nights so i try 2 keep her out of her way. its just hard trying to have a social life, do my homework nd luk after her nd my mum treats me lyk a slave.

she has down's syndrome but is also on the border of autism

     sz i went on x x x

    Re: my sis

Use all the time that you are away from home as wisely as you can.

Everythink that you need to talk about- make sure you do because it makes everything a whole lot easier.

Try and take short breaks away from the person you care for occasionally even if its only like a 5 min walk around the block. It helps clear your head and makes you able to cope better with the caring role when you get back in.

What things do you find hardest to do as a yc.

    Do you struggle with homework??
