Volunteers wanted to join the Youngcarers.net user group!

Do you know about the "user group" that we have here at Youngcarers.net? It's a group of our members who have volunteered to be part of a group who we consult when we want to get some opinions about what we should do. We've had the group for a while, but now it's time to get some new people involved!

It doesn't really take much work - you just need to reply to messages sometimes. So, if you'd like to get involved, get in touch - email us on the usual address: youngcarers@carers.org .

Or, if you've got any questions, feel free to post them here and we'll answer them for everyone.

Finally, if you've already been a member of the user group, you're welcome to apply again! But just to let you know, if we get too many people we might have to use just some of you and save the others for next time.

    The Youngcarers.net team.

P.S. To let you know what it's like, here's a comment from Shona, who has been on the user group for a while now:

"I love being on the young carers user group its really cool. When i was chosen to be on it i sat and thought about how we could make yc.net a better place for us. We stuck with the idea of a really good air hockey game to make yc.net a really fun place. We chose a name whacktastic and the the enviroment an outta space arcade and lastly we chose the oponnents Sam and Ewan =). When the game was finished it felt like we had some kind of backstage pass we saw a prieview of it and made comments on it before it was even posted on the website. I also liked chatting to my user group buddys. I felt the game was a huge success. We all worked really well as a team. We even managed to have a laugh in between the hard work we did. It was great!!!!!"

Re: Volunteers wanted to join the Youngcarers.net user group!

Hooray - thanks Kittz, and nice to meet you!

Just to explain, the user group is the thing where a group of our users help us by offering their opinions on the website, and telling us what they think of plans that we've got. We want a wide variety of people on that, so someone who is brand new and enthusiastic like yourself would be great. We'll email you soon to get it sorted out. And we're still looking for others, so roll up everyone!

The other things you mentioned are different, though: we do have a system of "buddies", but that's where an experienced member of Youngcarers.net helps a new person through their first couple of weeks. Since you've only just joined you wouldn't really be able to do that, but if you're still interested in a few weeks, let us know! And finally, the Agony Aunt pages aren't for you folks to answer - that's just us, we're afraid!

Thanks to everyone who's expressed an interest so far. We've still got a few days left, so if you'd be interested in getting involved, it's not too late to get in touch with us! youngcarers@carers.org .
