Hello folks, we got sent this poem written by a young carer and thought you might like to see it!
Let us know what you think of it and perhaps submit your own ........ at some stage we might have a Creative Writing page within the site where we could feature such things.
From a young age taking on the caring responsibility,
Helping someone else with their physical and mental abilities.
Having to stay strong and deal with the strife,
While other kids are enjoying their social life.
You have to learn to grow up before you should,
And a lot of the time you are rarely understood.
Dealing with the outbursts knowing it’s not their fault,
As you push your own problems away into your secret vault.
Taking on the dominating role,
Always there to help and console.
Becoming excluded from others at school,
Kids start slagging you off and start being cruel.
Being a young carer becomes your occupation,
A job without training or preparation.
This responsibility is just pushed onto you,
But it is something you know you have to do.
It gives you the feeling you have done something good,
But at the same time you’d take your independence back at any chance you
could!
